Take a scenic 30 minute helicopter trip from Te Anau over the Southern Alps into Fiordland and get on board the M.V. Pembroke, at sixty feet long and sixty tones, this boat is a classic small ship with a pure Fiordland pedigree. It offers only a few the chance to experience something special with comfortable accommodation for 8 passengers with 6 single beds and 2 double beds in 3 cabins, it’s a perfect set up for diving, hunting, fishing, sightseeing or just relaxing in solitude!

The vessel not only carries dive equipment it also carries fishing rods and the foredeck and full walk around side decks offer plenty of great fishing room. Fiordland is unchanged since Maori and European history began, it truly is awe-inspiring, a place of solitude and a great New Zealand experience. Explore the remote beauty of the precipitous valley walls, hanging valleys, moss laden and brooding, glacial carved fiords along with a myriad of misty waterfalls cascading from what seems the sky!

Fishing
The Fiords hold an abundance of sea-food, for divers crayfish and scallops and for the kids with their snorkels – paua and mussels. More species include:

- Trumpeter

- Sea Perch

- Grouper

- Blue Nose

- Gurnard

- Tuna (Off shore)

Hunting
On shore is a hunters paradise, but a challenging hunt. We wouldn’t recommend novice hunters in this area as the weather can be changeable and extreme, rivers rise and fall at alarming rates, and it requires extreme fitness and mountain knowledge. Red Deer, Wapiti, Thar and Chamois are found through the area.

Tutoko II may be a small boat, but will provide you with a big experience. Known for it’s Doubtful Sound overnight expedition, it can hold upto 14 people, featuring four private cabins, two with own en-suites and a bunk room. Fishing in Fiordland can be some of the best in the country especially out on the coast. Here there is a good variety of fish to catch that are great eating such as the southern ‘blue cod’ and hapuka to terakihi, trumpeter, blue nose, gurnard, butterfish, sea perch and of course in season you’ll get blue-fin, skipjack and albacore tuna.

Blue Cod fishery is in decline, but don’t be alarmed as this is a minor problem at the moment, we are simply acting cautiously because if we don’t act now the fishing here may soon be poor. For this reason we go further than the current recreational requirements, and waiting even longer before we take the fish (36cm instead of 33cm); thus allowing them to breed even more before they are taken.

The Remarkables Lodge is set in Queenstown, a hidden gem in a spectacular setting with stunning mountain views. This is one of New Zealand’s exclusive lodges. Here, you’ll be treated to some of the best food you’ve ever eaten, you’ll meet fascinating people from all over the world and your hosts will tell you some amazing stories. The experience you have here will last a lifetime.

The Lodge has all the facilities in which you’d expect for a luxury hotel but rather than a hotel you’ll experience the intimacy and hospitable ambiance of a country estate. It was once a former home, dating back to the Otago gold rush of 1861, Queenstown’s first European settler William Rees founded the Remarkables Station and since then four generations have farmed it. The homestead was built in the 1930′s, and was restored in 1995 as well as being completely refurbished in 2004.

Dining at the Remarkables will perhaps be one of the highlights of your stay. Each day you will receive a dinner menu in your room with a list of the food in which you’ll be having that night. In the morning, home made preserves and bottled fruit (which come from the lodge’s fantastic garden) is matched with a hearty cooked breakfast. For dinner you’ll receive local fresh produce which is made into delicious dishes each night. Enjoy fine dining partnered with superb New Zealand wines throughout your stay.

Although you may be tempted to stay and relax during your stay with us in Queenstown, we recommend you head off to explore the area. There is wineries, fly fishing, lake cruises and adventure activities. The lodge’s helipad facilitates further activities such as Milford Sound which is one of the most popular activities – with good reason, there is also Dart River or perhaps if you feel like a drive, we suggest to visit Arrowtown, a historic gold mining town perfect for a lunch stop and located just 20 minutes outside of Queenstown.

Fishing
Queenstown is a great destination for any fisherman, fly fishing is one of the most popular as you can enjoy numerous streams in the area where you can be guaranteed the peace, quite and solitude to sight and stalk wild Brown and Rainbow Trout. You’ve reach a part of New Zealand which is wild, spectacularly beautiful and remote. It will set you a challenge in which gin clear water and large wild trout will test your skills for catching the ultimate trophy.

Fishing is available all round with wilderness fly fishing running from October – 31 May. There are nine rivers, streams, spring creeks and alpine lakes to choose from.

Accommodation
Accommodating just 14 guests in three Premier Rooms with balconies, three Lodge Rooms upstairs in the main house, plus a detached Garden Suite, all in luxurious style and views which will take your breath away. Each room has spacious living areas, stylish bathrooms, a roaring log fire for those chilly days and a generously stocked and complimentary room fridge just for you!

Lodge Room:
There are three lodge rooms available, two have mountain views and one looks towards Lake Wakatipu & Queenstown. All of these rooms are en-suite (one which has a spa bath/shower and the other two have showers).

Premier Rooms:
There are three premier rooms each with their own name: The Wakatipu, The Remarkables and The Jardine. All of these rooms feature stunning views, large bathrooms and comfortable bedding. The Jardine room has two balconies perfect for the afternoon when the sun is setting.

The Garden Room:
A charming suite located adjacent to the house originally being the shepherd’s cottage. It offers more privacy and seclusion, perfect for honeymooners or couples! The Garden Room has a separate lounge, a bedroom with a superking bed and a large bathroom featuring a separate shower and spa bath.

Accommodation
The lodge offers 2 large master suites and 5 suites that retain the grand architectural features from the 19th century.

Rhodes Suite
This Suite was originally the master bedroom of this historic house, and is actually a series of four rooms which embodies the gracious character of Sir Heaton and Jessie Rhodes. The bedroom boasts a magnificent Victorian fireplace with spectacular inglenook seating and large stained glass windows. The en-suite bathroom is luxurious and appointed with a double shower with a separate spa tub. This room also features a private balcony showcasing spectacular views across the Canterbury plains.

Verandah Suite
This is the room with the view, four doors open onto an enormous arched verandah, reserved exclusively for the suite. Inside the interior is soft and calming with splashes of warm tones throughout. Lose yourself in the crackle of a fire – either from a deep armchair in the bedroom or from the freestanding bathtub in the spacious en-suite bathroom.

Botanical Suite
The Botanical Suite is located on the ground floor and used to be the original Morning Room, where tea was served to Jessie Rhodes and other fine Canterbury ladies everyday at 11 o’clock sharp. This room has now been converted to a stunning suite with floor-to-ceilling mantel featuring gingerbread woodwork as well as a stunning wood-burning fireplace. Your view faces east to the gardens and receives bright sunlight through the painted glass in the mornings.

Butler Suite
Comprising of a series of rooms overlooking the terracotta roof of the sunken game house (which is now a wine cellar). This Butler Suite is decorated in a reminiscent of the Arts and Crafts period, it features dark wood, original fireplace tiles and classic furniture. The Butler Suite also has a separate full sitting room and two bathrooms.

Clark Suite
This room was named for the Lady of the House – Jessie Clark. Looking out east and over the treetops to the Port Hills, the soft yellows and blues of the interior draws inspiration from the expansive stained glass windows, tiled fireplace and traditional English country ambiance.

Garret Suite
The Garret Suite is perched at the top of the house with stunning wood-paneled walls. Along these walls feature fishing and hunting memorabilia, along with an eclectic collection of antiques and mementos that will convince one that there is such a thing as a luxury attic.

Polo Suite
Obviously named after the tradition of the game at Otahuna, this Suite occupies a sunny position at the front of the house. The interior of this room features classic leathers, houndstooth fabrics and oak furniture providing perfect inspiration to plan one’s own horseback adventure!

Join some real New Zealand characters with years of hunting experience and get out into the wilderness. You will get the opportunity to fill a game bag containing up to 9 species. Test your skill and earn your animal. All animals are wild and free range. All hunts are fair chase; this is not soft adventure on a stocked game park! We will happily prepare your venison/bounty for dinner.

Species you hunt:

South Pacific Goat

Himalayan Tahr

All NZ hunting is extreme and hard. Depending on your fitness levels we recommend taking optional helicopter flights as we feel it is well worth the expense.
