Established in 1928 by hardy folk who loved the game, Russley is now 82 years old and stands as one of New Zealand’s premier courses. Our history contains some interesting events, from a war time role housing airport security personnel, the plane crash of 1957 to the many prestigious golf tournaments including the New Zealand Open in 1985 won by Corey Pavin.
In the 1960’s and 70’s the Wills Masters and Garden City Classic professional tournaments were hosted at Russley on 12 occasions. Players including Peter Thomson, Kel Nagle and Bob Charles were regular competitors. Other famous names who played Russley at that time were the three Toms, Watson, Weiskopf and Kite.
