Christchurch Golf Club

The Christchurch Golf Club has a proud history that dates back to 1873, and has played its part in full to grow the game of golf in New Zealand. The Club is the second oldest in New Zealand and the fifth oldest outside the United Kingdom and Ireland (Royal Calcutta 1829, Royal Bombay 1842, Manchester Club-Jamaica 1865, Otago 1871, Christchurch and Royal Montreal 1873, Brookline Massachusetts-USA 1882, Royal Cape Town 1885).

Shirley Golf Club has hosted New Zealand Open Championships in 1910, 1921, 1925, 1931, 1935, 1950, 1956, 1964, 1968 and 1982. However it’s greatest honour was to host the World Amateur Championships for the Eisenhower Trophy in 1990. Recent National Tournaments held on the course include the 1998 Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship, 1999 South Island Amateur Golf Championship, 2000 Amateur Golf Championship of New Zealand, 2002 Clare Higson Trophy (age group match between Australia and New Zealand) and the 2003 Four Nations Cup (team matches between Australia, Canada, Japan and New Zealand).
