Discovered in the early 17th century, Kawiti cave is 200m in length, 20m at the highest point and 12m at its widest. Guid
ed tours are available (30-40 minutes duration). As you enjoy the galaxies of glow worms above, your friendly guide will explain the life cycle of the New Zealand Glow worm and the intricate webs used to catch their prey. You’ll even get close enough to see the actual body of the glow worm and its stunning blue/green tail light. Limestone formations are found throughout the cave from entrance to exit. Handrails and wooden walkways through the cave and most of the bushwalk track over the hill. The return 10min bushwalk is approximately 350m through a natural corridor of ferns, shrubs, fungi, trees and karst limestone and sandstone formations.
