3-4 Hour Lake Marian Walk

Hike amongst superb forest and alpine scenery in New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park, witness waterfalls, local bird life, ribbon wood and beech tree forests. This fully guided hike will leave you in awe when you finally reach your destination.

Lake Marian is a beautiful alpine lake situated in a hanging valley surrounded by steep, snow clad mountains. Enjoy a picnic lunch at this inspirational location and take in the clean atmosphere. Begin your journey with a scenic drive along the Milford Road to the Lower Hollyford, this will be the starting point for your walk. There will be opportunities for short nature walks and photographic stops as you hike on wards. As it steepens the terrain becomes quite rocky underfoot as you ascend through the forests of fuchsia, ribbon wood and beech trees. There is only a maximum of 6 walkers on this trip, and your guide will share information and stories about the natural human heritage of the Fiordland. Hot drinks and energy snacks are carried by the guide, and a wilderness tea break is made available as required.

After 2-3 hours you reach your final destination at Lake Marian.


This tour is an average of 3 hours walking, there are sections which are uneven under foot. A medium level of fitness is required.
