New Zealand Big Game Species
There are 12 species of big game available to the hunter in New Zealand, please follow the links below for detailed information. All provide good trophies and many have exceeded the trophy potential of their county of origin.
Did you know that there were even Moose in New Zealand? Moose were liberated in Dusky Sound in about 1910 and around twelve were shot over the period to 1952. They have never been sighted since, and are presumed to be extinct. A mystery remains however, as periodically large hoof prints are spotted and thick saplings are found broken at a uniform height and stripped of leaves in a moose-like manner. If you see one shoot with a camera instead of a rifle – it may be the very last one.
